Location: Lanikai, Oahu |
Lanikai means "heavenly sea" in the
Hawaiian language. And at Lanikai Beach that is exactly
what you will find. Warm turquoise green waters
brush up against a fine sand beach while gentle
trade winds offer a cool relief from the hot Hawaiian
days. This beach is great for relaxing on the sand or
taking a swim in it's clear waters. Located on
Oahu's Windward coast Lanikai Beach is a popular hang out
for locals and tourist. So, bring our swim wear and
snorkel gear to enjoy a day at the beach.

Lanikai beach offers no public facilities such as
restrooms, showers or water fountains. It also does not
have any handicap parking or ramps. If you are in need of
such facilities Kailua Beach Park is a wiser choice.
The best part of Lanikai beach is before Onekea Dr. So try
and find parking before this street. When parking in this
neighbor hood try and keeping mind that this is a
residential area. Please do not block people's driveways
or trample their yards.

Lanikai Beach is just past Kailua Beach. Take Kawailo
Rd to Aalapapa Dr. Aalapapa Dr and Mokulua Dr from a
large one way loop that along with thier side
streets encompass the area know as Lanikai. Aalapapa Dr
leads into Lanikai and Mokulua Dr leads out of Lanikai.
There are many two way streets in the area that
connect Aalapapa Dr and Mokulua Dr making it easy to
change directions while in the loop. To get to Lanikai
Beach find parking along Mokulua Dr or one of its many
side streets. On Mokulua Dr there are many public access
points to the beach.

How to get to Lanikai, Kailua: Taxis
are available at the airport. The cost is around $50. You
can also make arrangements in advance for an airport
shuttle (808-261-5700) to meet you outside of the baggage
area. Cost is about $30 for two. Rent-a-cars
are available at the airport and there are three
quick ways to get to Lanikai.
To take the new H3 Freeway: At the
airport freeway entrance, move to the left lanes and take
the Waianae exit on H1 WEST. Follow the road towards Pearl
City. As you approach Aloha Stadium, move towards the
right side of the freeway and watch for signs to Hwy 78
and H3 to Kaneohe. Take the new H3 freeway through
the long Halawa Tunnel north past Kaneohe
towards MCBH (Marine Corps Base Hawaii) at the end of the
road. Get off at Exit 14 or Exit 15 to Kailua. Lanikai is
a neighborhood on the south side of Kailua. This is
a fast and beautiful new road. We highly recommend
it.
To take the scenic Pali Highway 61: At
the airport freeway entrance, move to the right lanes and
take H1 EAST. Follow the freeway east and move to the left
lanes. Follow the H1 as it forks left to Honolulu. About a
mile further ahead, the highway merges with Hwy. 78.
Continues ahead about four miles. Get in the right lanes
and watch for the Pali Highway exit. Turn left to go north
on Pali Highway through the Pali Tunnels for 13 miles to
Kailua. Lanikai is a neighborhood on the south side of
Kailua. This is one of the most scenic roads on Oahu
through the Nuuanu rain forrest. Make a quick stop at the
Pali lookout for fabulous views and photos of the Windward
side.
To take Likelike Highway 63: At the
airport freeway entrance, move to the right lanes and take
H1 EAST. Follow the freeway east and move to the left
lanes. Follow H1 as it forks left to Honolulu. About a
mile further ahead, the highway merges with Hwy. 78.
Continue ahead east about 3/4 of a mile. Get in the right
lanes and take the Likelike Highway exit. Turn left to go
11 miles north on Likelike Highway through the Wilson
Tunnel and into Kaneohe. Continue north across the
intersection of Kamehameha Highway. Here the road becomes
Kaneohe Bay Drive Highway 630. Continue ahead on Hwy. 630
for another three miles over the "saddle" into
Kailua. Lanikai is a neighborhood on the south side of
Kailua. We are not so fond of Likelike Highway but
it also gets you here.
